Where's the beef?

Café No. 11 at The Old Bank House and Real Gourmet Burger

February is a cold, dark month. And, if you’ve eaten through your chocolate supply, there’s only one thing left to do. Eat burgers.

Here are two drool-worthy joints:

If it’s a burger you’re after, skip the fancy-schmancy Food Circle restaurants in Kinsale town and visit Café No. 11 at The Old Bank House. By day, it sells delectable breakfasts, lunches, treats and coffee – and by night, simply delicious burgers (all priced below €9.50) accompanied by great fries, onion rings and homemade coleslaw. The kids menu of mini lamb, chicken or beef burgers rings in at €5.50. This small spot is child-friendly and the snug-like area at the back gives you some privacy and room to stash a buggy. To wash down your whopper, they have a small selection of wine as well as Heineken on draft.

Burger bars are plentiful in Dublin, but Real Gourmet Burger is a firm favourite with the Bugaboo Mumfia. (In this case, that’s a good thing.) Organic ingredients range from the somewhat avant-garde venison to more traditional beef and lamb. Vegetarians are welcome and they serve a mean salad. For the kiddies, try a ‘do-it-yourself’ burger with lil’pots of garnish. Leave room for pudding, like the delightfully sinful Eton Mess or chocolate pot. An impressive wine list, organic sodas (is that possible?) and juices are on offer. Oh, and there’s plenty of room to maneuver, no need to shhhh, highchairs & and a fully-equipped baby change room. -MNG & MM
